NOBLESVILLE – The Guerin Catholic girls lacrosse team is heading back to the state championship game.

The Golden Eagles reached the final of the Class 2A title game by beating Noblesville 18-7 at the Millers’ Beaver Materials Field on Tuesday. Guerin Catholic will go for its third consecutive state championship Saturday, with the championship game also taking place at Beaver Field.

The Millers scored the game’s first goal, with Lydia Dumas scoring off a Chloe Barnett assist. But the Golden Eagles took over after that, pouring in five goals over a five-minute span to lead 5-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Guerin Catholic then put in eight goals in the second period for a 13-3 halftime lead. Caroline Ford scored three of those goals; she also added a first-quarter score for four goals overall.

“I was impressed with our girls today,” said Golden Eagles coach Joe Bellflower. “I expected that they would come out real hard. They did come out hard and physical. We just played our game and our girls to show up today and they played really well.”

Gabby Deer and Alex Soucie both added three goals for GC, with Sophia Galvin and Jane Cline each scoring two. Lucy Esposito, Natalie Laughon, Sarah Jacoby and Avery Wilson all scored one. Deer dished out three assists, while Laughon, Soucie, Lyrric Barnett and Cline each handed out one.

Dumas totaled three goals for Noblesville, while Nataley Blackburn put in two goals. Emma Hammond and Marisha Woehler both scored one goal. Barnett totaled two assists.

The second semifinal game featured Carmel and Zionsville. That contest was halfway through the first quarter when it was delayed by lightning, and eventually postponed to 6 p.m. Thursday. The Greyhounds are leading 2-1; Breckin Hare and Sophie Mock both have scored one goal so far.
