Golden Eagles score late, beat Park Tudor

Guerin Catholic used a late surge to beat Park Tudor 10-7 Wednesday in an away game.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning; Ben Canada smacked a solo home run for the Golden Eagles’ score. Karsen Smith tripled in two runs during the third inning, sending Canada and Ian Taylor home.

The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the third for a 4-3 lead. Guerin Catholic took back the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth: Nolan Ratcliff hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Tate Troxell, then Carson Kail’s left field hit scored Liam Zorger and Brody Cain.

Park Tudor put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth and led 7-6. The Golden Eagles moved ahead for good by scoring four runs in the sixth inning. Taylor cracked a two-run homer, also scoring Ratcliff, then Smith hit a left field home run, also bringing Kail home.

Smith totaled four RBIs for the game. Ben Aho got the pitching win.

Guerin Catholic is 15-2-1 and travels to Lafayette Central Catholic this weekend to play in the Catholic Classic.

Sheridan picked up a Hoosier Heartland Conference win over Taylor, 7-6 on Wednesday.

The Blackhawks got out to an early lead by scoring three runs in the first inning. Brayden Whisman singled in Levi Gellert for the first run, Braelan Bochner stole home plate, then Whisman scored on an error.

Gellert scored a second-inning run on an error for a 4-0 lead. The Titans doubled in a run in the top of the third inning, but Jake Hall singled in Chance Spencer in the bottom of the third.

Austin Hinshaw scored in the fifth inning after Eli Bales reached on an error. Taylor scored four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but Hinshaw got home on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to give Sheridan the win.

Whisman and Walker McWhorter both had two hits, with McWhorter hitting a double. Bochner threw six strikeouts in six innings for the win, allowing only one hit.

Sheridan is 7-8 and travels to Clinton Central on Saturday for another conference game.

University sailed past Lawrence North 12-6 in a Wednesday road game.

The Wildcats led 1-0 after two innings, but the Trailblazers took over after scoring six runs in the third inning. Ryan Castetter doubled in Ethan Cutsinger for their first run, then later scored on an error.

Cooper Cammack singled Oliver Kingery home to give University a 3-1 lead. The Blazers loaded the bases, then Beckett Suh scored after Finn Steiner drew a walk. Cammack got home on David Gasper’s sacrifice fly, then Philip Jacobs scored on a wild pitch, putting University ahead 6-1.

Kingery scored in the fourth inning on Suh’s RBI groundout, then Steiner got a fifth-inning run on a pitcher’s balk. Jacobs doubled in Suh and Castetter in the sixth inning, then Castetter singled home Quinn Green and Braxton Sparks in the seventh inning.

Castetter was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Jacobs also hit a double. Caleb Stocker pitched four innings for the win, striking out four. Hunter Canning also threw four strikeouts in two innings.

University is 14-6 and hosts Cathedral this afternoon.

Fishers beat Avon 1-0 on Wednesday for an away Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory.

Asher Nelson doubled in Isaac Fernandez in the second inning for the Tigers’ run.

Austin Conley pitched a complete game, striking out five while allowing only one hit. Owen Lukac and Vincent Pecoraro both hit one double.

Fishers is 5-4 in conference play and 9-12 overall. The Tigers host Avon tonight to complete the HCC series.
