Golden Eagles power to 1A state title

The Guerin Catholic boys lacrosse team won the IHSLA Class 1A state championship on Saturday, May 30, beating Evansville Memorial 19-9.

The Guerin Catholic boys lacrosse team cruised to the IHSLA Class 1A state championship on Saturday, May 30 at Brownsburg.

The Golden Eagles powered past Evansville Memorial 19-9. Guerin Catholic outscored the Tigers in each quarter, jumping out to a 6-1 lead after one period.

The other three quarters were closer, but the Golden Eagles increased their lead after each one. Guerin Catholic led 9-3 at halftime, 15-7 after three periods and finished by outscoring Memorial 4-2 in the fourth period.

Gavin Soucie dominated the game, scoring six goals and making two assists. Vinny Elliott scored four goals and dished out four assists. Mason Walosin contributed three goals and two assists, while J.B. Ford added three goals and one assist.

R.J. Flemming, Henry Kerr and Gabe Berglund all scored one goal, while Chris Giedd, Ethan Lehtinen and Timothy Galvin both handed out one assist. Goalkeeper Magnus Mertes made nine saves.

Guerin Catholic finished its season 13-7.
