Guerin Catholic picked up its first Circle City Conference sweep of the year on Wednesday, winning 10-4 at Bishop Chatard.
The Golden Eagles scored their first two runs in the top of the third inning, when Sam Tabor’s line drive sent Davis Wagner and Clay Patton home. The Trojans came back to take the lead in the bottom of the innings, with three runs to lead 3-2.
Guerin Catholic rebounded in the fourth inning, getting five runs. Will Fremion doubled in Cuinn Morrow to tie the game, then Anthony Ferrucci’s left field line drive scored AJ Nunley, and the Golden Eagles were back on top for good.
But why not get some more runs? Fremion scored one when he got home on Patton’s RBI fielder’s choice. Wagner then blasted a triple to send in Patton, then Tabor’s single scored Wagner. With that, Guerin led 7-3.
Nunley added a run in the fifth inning after Patton hit a sacrifice fly, then Wagner singled in Fremion. The Golden Eagles scored their 10th run in the seventh inning; Patton got home after Bryson Dorsey reached on error.
Wagner and Tabor each had three hits, with Tabor totaling three runs. Wagner got the win, with five strikeouts in three innings. Ferrucci had two hits, and also pitched four innings in relief, striking out four.
Guerin Catholic is now 2-0 in conference play and 4-0 overall. The Golden Eagles continue CCC action Tuesday when they host Covenant Christian.
