Golden Eagles drop first game of season

Guerin Catholic dropped its first game of the season Tuesday, falling to Yorktown 54-40 at the Eagles Nest.

The Golden Eagles stayed close with the Tigers in the first quarter, trailing only by 16-14. Five players scored, with Lillian Behrle getting four points and Annie Murphy and Kori Dues both hitting a 3-pointer. Yorktown outscored GC 11-5 in the second period for a 27-19 halftime lead.

Both teams added 16 points in the third quarter, including six from Ava Bills. But the Tigers pulled away again with another 11-5 period in the fourth.

Gianna Morelli and Bills both scored 10 points.

Guerin Catholic is 1-1 and plays Saturday afternoon at Greenfield-Central.
