Guerin Catholic dropped a Circle City Conference game to Covenant Christian 79-71 Friday at the Eagles Nest.
The Golden Eagles led 15-13 after the first quarter and 26-24 at halftime, but the Warriors took over in the third quarter, at one point leading 47-34 before Guerin Catholic got back within 47-40 by the end of the period. Covenant then added 32 points in a high-scoring fourth quarter, GC had 31 points in the fourth.
Bernie McGuinness led the Golden Eagles with 22 points, including a 12-of-14 effort from the free-throw line. Joseph Bobilya added 19 points and Kaleb Edwards scored 14 points. Cameron Weitzel led the rebounds with eight, with McGuinness also pulling five rebounds. Edwards had five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Guerin Catholic is 2-1 in the conference and 10-3 overall. The Golden Eagles host Martinsville tonight.
