Peanut Butter & Jam
Tickets are on sale now for the upcoming season of Peanut Butter & Jam performances for kids and families, now sponsored by PEAS for Kids. Aimed at ages 1 to 7, the series of nine monthly Saturday events kicks off Sept. 26 with Mexican music and dance by Mariachi Sol Jalisciense de Indianapolis.
As always, the cool thing about PB&J is that tickets are just $10 per child and include two free adult admissions. See the full lineup here.
Luminaries
On sale now is the new season of Luminaries, the Center’s weekday speaker series on the arts.
The first event at 2 p.m. Sept. 29, titled “Americana and Jazz Collide,” features the leaders of the Indianapolis-based Visions Jazz Ensemble discussing a new commissioned album project that presents all-American standards like “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “Ghost Riders in the Sky” in inventive new jazz arrangements.

Student Matinees
How about those free Student Matinees for school groups? Four great morning shows are scheduled this season, starting Oct. 1 with the genre-blending Nigerian violinist Demola, now open for public and private school reservations. The remaining three events will open for school registrations Aug. 4. Reservations for homeschool groups will open six weeks prior to the performance dates, and you can see those dates here.
Reminder to educators: The Transportation Grant Program can help defray the cost of hiring drivers and vehicles, making these free field trip opportunities available to more kids throughout Central Indiana.
New musical playground now open
If you’re visiting our campus with kids who need to work off a little energy, a new option has graciously been provided by the City of Carmel and Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation.
With the Midtown enhancement of the Monon Greenway extending southward, a ginormous $2 million play structure has been assembled just north of City Center Drive, which is right across the street from Allied Solutions Center and right across the trail from the proposed site of the Great American Songbook Foundation’s long-planned museum.
Appropriately, the new 40-foot mass of slides and ladders carries a performing arts theme, with a tower designed as a metronome and other music-related play features.
Palladium Bookies
The Palladium Bookies reading club – anyone can come and it’s free! – convenes at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 to discuss Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan, a novel about jazz musicians in pre- and postwar Europe.
Beatles fans will appreciate the selection for the Oct. 12 session, the New York Times best-seller John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs by Ian Leslie.
