The REPORTER

The Carmel girls track & field team defended its regional championship Tuesday at Lafayette Jefferson.

The Greyhounds totaled 127 team points, including nine event victories, to win the team trophy. Carmel also qualified 12 to next weekend’s IHSAA state finals, which take place next Saturday, June 7 at North Central.

Emily Norris had a dominant day for the ‘Hounds, winning four events. Norris claimed the 200 dash and long jump, then joined Rebecca Belanger, Olivia Cebalo and Gabriela Grande Rosas for a victory in the 4×100 relay. At the end of the meet, Norris teamed with Grande Rosas, Cebalo and Sadie Foley to win the 4×400 relay.

Foley was a triple winner. She began the meet by joining Annabel Pollert, Anna Yoon and Larkin Taylor for a win in the 4×800 relay. Foley later placed first in the 1600 run.

Noblesville finished fourth as a team with 54 points. The Millers had two state qualifiers: Ainsley Meinerding was second in the 200 dash, while Brinkley Cooper took third in the 800 run. Noblesville also had some results that may earn callbacks to the state meet; those should be announced sometime today.

Fishers finished fifth by scoring 45 points. The Tigers advanced five to state, starting with Macey Miller, who took second in the discus. Mia Tobias placed third in the shot put.

The Fishers 4×100 relay team of Devyn Day, Ava Underwood, Rylan David and Zinnia Pineda finished third, with Pineda placing third in the 200 dash to qualify in that event. Isabella Murch was fourth in the 800, but her time of 2 minutes, 14.54 seconds was under the state standard and she qualified.
