Girls tennis: Three county teams reach regional finals

Three Hamilton County girls tennis teams advanced to the championship of their respective regionals after Tuesday semifinal victories.

Fourth-ranked Westfield advanced to the Noblesville regional final after beating Alexandria 5-0. The Shamrocks dropped only two games among the five matches and will play No. 16 Delta at 4:45 p.m. today for the championship.

Carmel beat Crawfordsville to reach the Lebanon regional final. The second-ranked Greyhounds will take on No. 1 Brebeuf Jesuit at 5 p.m. today for the title.

No. 6-ranked Fishers beat the host, No. 20-ranked Mt. Vernon 3-2 to advance to the final at that site. The Tigers play New Castle at 5 p.m. for the championship.

In individual play, University’s Laurel Buttrick advanced at the Lebanon individual sectional by beating Covington’s Malah Bridwell 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 18-3 on the year. Buttrick plays again this afternoon.
