Three Hamilton County girls tennis teams won sectional championships last Saturday.

Westfield, ranked No. 4 in the state by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association, defended its sectional title with a 5-0 victory over Sectional 56 host Noblesville. The Shamrocks only dropped one game among the five matches.

“We’ve been playing well all season,” said Westfield coach Trudy Coler. “We only have one loss to Carmel early in the season. The girls have really been coming to play. They’ve been prepared and they’ve been focused and today was no exception.”

The Shamrocks got 6-0, 6-0 wins from Alexandra Grilliot, Isla Harvey and Juliette Grilliot in singles, along with straight-set victories from No. 1 doubles Bella Rivera and Jenna Berry and No. 2 doubles Addi Kooi and Ellen Volz.

Kooi, also a champion golfer for Westfield, made the transition to doubles from No. 3 singles, which she had played for the past three years.

“I’m used to being by myself a lot, and now I have a teammate, which is awesome,” said Kooi. “It’s a lot different energy-wise. You have someone that’s lifting you up and you have someone that you can lift up and that’s there for you. You really have to split up the court and communicate a lot more.”

The Shamrocks return to Noblesville on Tuesday to play in Regional 14. Westfield takes on Alexandria in one semifinal, with No. 16-ranked Delta playing Jay County in the other semifinal. The championship match is on Wednesday.

Fishers travels to Mt. Vernon Tuesday to play in Regional 8. The Tigers will take on the host and No. 20-ranked Marauders in one semifinal, while New Castle and Centerville face off in the other semifinal.

Second-ranked Carmel won Sectional 35 at Zionsville with a 5-0 victory over No. 13 Guerin Catholic.

The Greyhounds won their 33rd consecutive sectional title. Carmel travels to Regional 9 at Lebanon to play Crawfordsville in one semifinal. No. 1 Brebeuf Jesuit plays Fountain Central in the other semifinal.
