The Westfield girls swim team opened its season by winning its own Kristin Rice Westfield Invitational on Saturday.
The Shamrocks outdistanced the field of six teams, scoring 628 points to runner-up Jay County’s 497. Westfield won seven of 11 varsity events, including 1-2 finishes in three races and 1-2-3 places in three other events. The ‘Rocks also won all 10 junior varsity races.
Event winners include: Molly Ruggles, Erin Verbrugge, Katie Hand and Kerry Effinger in the 200 medley relay, Verbrugge in the 200 freestyle, Hand in the individual medley, Taylor Jackson in diving, Lily Hunter in the 100 free, Kendall Wilkes in the 500 freestyle and Hunter, Hand, Verbrugge and Effinger in the 400 freestyle relay.
Westfield will be joined by the boys team in its season opener on Nov. 28 when the Shamrocks host Fishers in a dual meet.
