Girls soccer: Greyhounds pick up another win, this time over Pendleton Heights

The Carmel girls soccer team won a home game Wednesday night, beating Pendleton Heights 4-0 at Brian Murray Stadium.

The Greyhounds got on the board in the seventh minute with a goal from Olivia Cebalo. Carmel added a second goal with 22:44 left in the half when Halle Wellman scored off an assist by Emma Ehret. Vaughn Rohrbacher put in the Greyhounds’ third goal with under two minutes to go in the half; Addison Smith made the assist.

“We were working on a lot of things and we have been for the past week,” said Hounds coach Frank Dixon. “And it was good to see of the things come in the first part of the game that we did things correctly, did what we wanted.”

Freshman Ella Sarson scored Carmel’s fourth goal in the second half; Dixon said that was Sarson’s second goal of the season. Goalkeeper Lillian Bose deflected a penalty kick attempt by the Arabians during that half as well.

“We’re getting her playing time on the JV, but she’s been with us on the varsity, on the bench the whole time through.”

With the victory, Carmel improved to 3-1 for the season. The Greyhounds will host their own invitational on Saturday, playing against Fishers at 10:30 a.m. and Brownsburg at 3 p.m.

“We’re improving each game, so that’s good,” said Dixon. We’re going to get to where we want to get to by the end of the 16 games.”

Hamilton Southeastern picked up a Hoosier Crossroads Conference win Wednesday, beating Brownsburg 2-0 at home.

The Royals scored both goals in the second half. Sydney May put in the first goal, with Sloane May making the assist. Margaux Henning got the second goal. Meanwhile, Southeastern held the Bulldogs to one shot for the entire game.

Royals coach Greg Davidson gave a long list of players who contributed “great defensive play,” including goalkeeper Hannah Dodge, Kate Noel, Abby Straus, Sydney Cook, Blair Satterfield, Bailey Sapp and Lauren Kutoloski. Davidson named Cole Lance the player of the game “for her work in the midfield and controlling the tempo of the game,” he said.

Southeastern is 2-0 in conference play and 5-0 overall. The Royals travel to Noblesville Saturday for another HCC contest.

Westfield also triumphed in an HCC game Wednesday, cruising past Franklin Central 7-0.

Reese Sargent scored the Shamrocks’ first goal seven minutes into the game, then Coltie Carson and Kate Malin put in late goals to give Westfield a 3-0 halftime lead. The Rocks kept things going in the second half, with Malin adding two goals; she had three total. Sargent scored a second goal in the second half, then Kylie Ipsen added a late goal.

Westfield is 1-1 in conference play and 2-1 overall. The Shamrocks play a tournament this weekend in Evansville, taking on Highlands from Fort Thomas, Ky. Friday night before playing games against Castle and Lexington Catholic on Saturday.

Hamilton Heights scored a 6-2 Hoosier Conference win over Western on Wednesday.

Sarah Toll and Natalie Marcum both put in two goals, while Savannah Deetz and Lizzy Smith each added one goal. Smith also dished out two assists, with Deetz, Addyson Ferguson and Marcum all handing out one assist each. Goalkeeper Audrey Lang made 14 saves.

The Huskies are 2-0 in the conference and 2-1-1 overall. Heights’ next game is Saturday morning at Yorktown.

Noblesville defeated Avon 1-0 Wednesday to collect a victory in its HCC opener.

The Millers dominated time of possession and shots on goal, but the game went into halftime tied 0-0. Noblesville came out in the second half and immediately began pressing to score but the game remained tied 0-0 until the 5:34 mark when Kaydence Fleck was taken out in the box. That gave the Millers a penalty kick opportunity, and Meredith Tippner stepped up and put it in the back of the net.

Bella Wyatt earned her third shutout of the season.

Noblesville is 3-0 and hosts Hamilton Southeastern Saturday night in another conference game.

Fishers dropped a 3-0 HCC contest to Zionsville on Wednesday.

The Tigers are 1-1 in conference play and 3-1 overall. Fishers plays Saturday at the Carmel Invitational, playing the Greyhounds at 10:30 a.m. and Cathedral at 1:30 p.m.
