The Carmel and Noblesville girls soccer teams added yet another exciting game to their rivalry on Monday, as the two teams met at the Greyhounds’ Murray Stadium.
Carmel, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, and Noblesville, No. 3 in 3A, played to a 1-1 tie. Both goals were scored in the first half, within 91 seconds of each other.
In the 61st minute, Kelsie James put the Greyhounds on the board, scoring off a cross by Emily Roper. But just a minute and a half later, the Millers’ Makenna Maloy got the equalizer, making good on a free kick from 22 yards out. The score remained at 1-1 until the final horn.
Noblesville goalkeeper Sara Kile had six saves, while Carmel’s Erin Baker had two saves.
The Millers are 8-0-3 and travel to Franklin Central tonight for a 7 p.m. Hoosier Crossroads Conference game. The Greyhounds are 9-0-3 and play Thursday at 2A No. 1 Brebeuf Jesuit.
Sheridan played two games this week.
On Monday, the Blackhawks lost to Eastern 4-2 in a hard-fought game. Clair Purciful gave Sheridan its first lead of the season by scoring 22 minutes into the first half. The Comets came back to lead 2-1 at halftime. Jensyn Walker scored the Blackhawks’ second goal with 13 minutes left in the game.
Sheridan played at University on Tuesday, with the 1A No. 5 Trailblazers winning 10-0. Whitney Freeman scored six goals for University, with Tessa Hudson and Lilly Fair both getting two goals. Meggie Tanona dished out four assists, while Freeman had one. The ‘Blazers are 10-2-2 for the season.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday. The Blackhawks play at Rossville, with University traveling to Western Boone.
Westfield cruised past Pendleton Heights 6-0 on Monday.
Six different Shamrocks scored goals: Allison Bullock, Amiah Sprunger, Jaimie Kolanowski, Kirsten Kratz, Lauren Macdonald and Ari Teles.
The victory improved Westfield’s record to 8-5. The ‘Rocks host Brownsburg at 7 p.m. tonight in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
Hamilton Southeastern, the No. 1 team in 3A, sailed past McCutcheon 5-0 in a Monday game.
The Royals scored immediately, with Izzie Wallace putting the ball into the goal just two minutes into the game. Ashlyn Freeman added a second goal with under four minutes left, giving Southeastern a 2-0 halftime lead.
Wallace added two more goals in the second half, giving her a total of three for the game. Meredith Webster scored the Royals’ fifth goal. Kaitlyn Wallace, Olivia Smith, Lauren Ellinger and Freeman all made one assist.
Southeastern is 13-1 and plays at 7 p.m. tonight at Zionsville in an HCC game.
Fishers, ranked No. 7 in 3A, played to a 1-1 tie with Harrison on Monday.
The Tigers are 7-1-4 and host Avon at 6:45 p.m. tonight in an HCC game.
