Hamilton Southeastern improved to 5-0 on Tuesday with a 50-43 win at Perry Meridian.
The Class 4A No. 4 Royals lead 10-5 after the first quarter and 21-11 at halftime. The Falcons cut HSE’s lead to 33-30 by the third quarter, but the Royals were able to hang on for the win.
Sydney Parrish led Southeastern with 25 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Amaya Hamilton grabbed five rebounds.
The Royals will play their first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon when they host Fort Wayne Carroll. Tipoff is 2:30 p.m.
‘Hawks fall to Bruins
Sheridan fell to Tri-West 51-38 Tuesday at Hobbs Memorial Hall.
The Blackhawks trailed 17-12 after the first quarter, but came back to lead 30-24 at halftime. The Bruins took over in the second half, outscoring Sheridan 27-8.
Audrey Reed scored 20 points for the ‘Hawks, and also grabbed five rebounds. Three other Sheridan players – Nixon Williams, Heather Barker and Emma Tomaszewski – all had six rebounds.
The Blackhawks are 1-2, and host Elwood at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
‘Blazers fall at Waldron
University dropped its first game of the young season Tuesday night, falling at Waldron, 72-65.
The Trailblazers (3-1) jumped out to a 9-4 lead on six quick points from Lindsey Syrek and a 3-pointer by Brooke Andrus. Waldron called timeout, and won the rest of the quarter 13-2 to lead 17-11 at the end of the first. The Mohawks lead swelled to 26-15 three minutes into the second quarter, but a 12-0, 100-second run put University ahead 27-26. The Trailblazers led by as much as four, 34-30, before the half, but two late 3s from Waldron tied the game at halftime, 36-36.
Waldron scored the first eight points of the second half and University trailed the rest of the way. The Trailblazers closed to 50-47 at the end of the third quarter, finishing on a 6-0 run, but could never get over the hump and grab the lead. Andrus, who scored 11, fouled out just before the midway point of the fourth quarter, and Syrek, who led University with 27, picked up her fifth foul a couple minutes later. Waldron’s lead got back out to double digits in the closing stages, but a couple of late Natalie Nickless 3s closed the margin to its final, 72-65. Nickless hit six 3-pointers for her 18 points.
