GC up to fifth in poll, Carmel wins Irish Invite

Guerin Catholic’s busy (and productive) first week did not go unnoticed by the Indiana girls golf pollsters.
The Golden Eagles soared to fifth in the latest edition of the coaches ranking, which was released Sunday night. Guerin continued its busy stretch by placing second in the Cathedral Irish Invitational on Monday at Maple Creek Golf Club in Indianapolis, then winning a three-team nine-hole meet at Pebble Brook on Tuesday.
At Pebble Brook, the Golden Eagles’ Angelica Pfefferkorn was the meet medalist with a 34. Mckayla Tallman and Sophie McGinnis both carded 38s while Christina Pfefferkorn shot a 43.
Noblesville, which received an honorable mention in the latest poll, was second with a 169, while Cathedral placed third with 185. Ellie Karst led the Millers by shooting 41, followed by Mia Sommervold carding a 42.
Other Noblesville scores were: Sarah Brenneman 43, Bella Deibel 43, Taylor Caldwell 47, McKenzie Bennett 49, Ellen Bennett 50 and Sophie Stutz 53.
HUSKIES GET DUAL VICTORY
Hamilton Heights won a dual meet with Frankton Tuesday at Bear Slide Golf Club.
The Huskies scored 217 to the Eagles’ 268. Heights’ Alyx Hartley was the individual medalist, shooting a 48. Other Huskies scores were: Kate Biggs 53, Ellie Arrowood 56, Veronica Meredith 60, Elizabeth Havron 61 and Rebekah Steffen 62.
‘HOUNDS WIN IRISH INVITATIONAL
Carmel won the Cathedral Irish Invitational on Monday, shooting a team score of 330.
Katie Kuc led the third-ranked Greyhounds with a 79, battling through a five-hole playoff with all pars to win medalist honors. Nina Hecht carded 82, followed by Elizabeth Hedrick 84, Ava Hedrick 85 and Sydney Longstreth 94.
“The course was quite a challenge for us but the girls kept positive attitudes the entire way,” said Carmel coach Kelly Kluesner.
The Greyhounds junior varsity team also won its invitational, shooting a 380. Ella Woods was the medalist with an 87, followed by Averie Reiter 89, Ainsley Wright 100, Grace Ackerman 104 and Chloe Tapnio 105.
Guerin Catholic finished second with a 348, while ninth-ranked Hamilton Southeastern placed third with a 382. Maggie Watson scored a 91 for the Royals, with Ashley Marcinko shooting a 93.
