Carmel’s Maya Fujisawa Keuling is competing at this week’s U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
The Greyhounds incoming sophomore scored a 73 in her first round, making three birdies along the way. Fujisawa Keuling will play her second round this afternoon, teeing off at 2:41 p.m.
Fujisawa Keuling received a place in the tournament as an “exempt” player after winning the Indiana Girls State Junior Championship, which she won June 12.
A total of 156 players are competing in the U.S. Junior Championship. The first two rounds are stroke play, with the low 64 scorers advancing to match play. Fujisawa Keuling is tied for 74th, but is only one stroke back from the current cut line of even par.
Match play begins on Wednesday, with the tournament continuing through Saturday.
