The Hoosier Crossroads Conference announced its spring Athletes of the Year on Friday. Four Hamilton County student-athletes were among those honored.

Baseball – Mayo Fernandez, Fishers

Fishers senior Mayo Fernandez has been named the HCC Baseball Athlete of the Year. Fernandez shares the honor with Avon’s Wyatt Pennington.

Fernandez hit .390 with a .447 OBP. He also drove in 16 runs. The second baseman for the HCC Champions had a sparkling .948 fielding percentage.

Coach Matthew Cherry says, “this is an honor for Mayo to be selected HCC Baseball Co-Athlete of the Year from the best baseball conference in the Midwest. Mayo is fearless at the plate. He not only led our team in hitting overall but was our best hitter with runners in scoring position, hitting .571. Mayo never shied away from the big moment and continued to get big hit after big hit all season long.”

Fernandez will continue his education and baseball career at Grace College.

Boys golf – Will Harvey, Westfield

Senior Will Harvey of Westfield has been named the Boys Golf Athlete of the Year.

Harvey established a 69.8 scoring average during the season while winning medalist honors at five invitationals. In addition, he recorded 12 rounds under par.

Harvey finished second at the HCC meet this spring while becoming a four-time All HCC First team member. He was HCC medalist as a freshman.

Coach Josh Bryant says, “Will personifies competitive excellence on the course and is most deserving of this recognition through his hard work, grit and determination. Will’s accomplishments during the 2025 season are truly incredible and we could not be happier for him to receive this prestigious award.”

Harvey will continue his education and golf career at Purdue University.

Boys volleyball – Nate Fitzwater, Fishers

Senior Nate Fitzwater of Fishers has been voted the HCC Boys Volleyball Athlete of the Year.

The 6’6” outside hitter had 453 kills on the season averaging 4.4 kills per set. Defensively, he contributed 90 digs and 63 blocks.

Coach Carlos Capó says, “Nate’s dominance throughout the season highlights his impressive size and power, which allowed him to control matches and pose a significant challenge to opponents.”

Fitzwater will continue his education at Purdue University.

Girls tennis – Alexandra Grilliot, Westfield

Westfield’s Alexandra Grilliot has been honored by the HCC tennis coaches as the Athlete of the Year.

Grilliot won the HCC singles championship, becoming only the fifth freshman in the 25-year history of the HCC to win the title.

Grilliot’s record at No. 1 singles is a perfect 27-0.

Coach Trudy Coler says, “As a freshman playing No. 1 singles, Alexandra has had an incredible undefeated season, competing against some of the top players in the state. She will finish her season at the Individual State Finals – an impressive finish to a remarkable year.”
