“Alaina Shonkwiler has the determination to do what’s best for Hoosier taxpayers and embraces our Hamilton County conservative values as a longtime public servant for our community,” Kenley said. “I had the privilege of serving our community in elected office for 25 years and retired to allow the next generation of conservative leadership to step up. I fully support Alaina in her campaign to be our next State Representative. As our leaders at the Statehouse prepare for the upcoming budget session next year, I know Alaina will serve us well with her understanding of how critically important financial responsibility and a high level of accountability is to taxpayers. She will stand with law enforcement, fight to protect our traditional Hoosier family values, and work to fund our priorities while keeping taxes low. Alaina is the person we need to keep Indiana on the right track, and I give her my full endorsement.”

As head of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Kenley led the state’s biennial budget process from start to finish, ensuring priorities including public safety, education, infrastructure and healthcare were fully funded, while protecting state investments and taxpayer dollars. He served in the State Senate from 1992 to 2017 where he spearheaded major reforms including the removal of the state’s inheritance tax.

“I am honored to consider Senator Kenley a friend and mentor, and proud he was among one of my very first supporters,” Shonkwiler said. “He has arguably shaped the state’s spending priorities more than any other state lawmaker and has a proven track record of advancing conservative fiscally responsible policies. He is a true statesman in every sense of the word, and I do not take Senator Kenley’s support lightly. I will always look to follow his example of selfless service to our state as our next State Representative.”

Alaina Shonkwiler lives in Noblesville along with her husband, Jason, a Sergeant with the Noblesville Police Department and current High School Resource Officer, and their two school aged children, Hannah and Kyle.
