Hamilton Heights School Board candidate Jack Russell has announced that he has received the endorsement of longtime Hamilton County public servant and former Hamilton County Sheriff Dan Stevens.

Stevens served Hamilton County for nearly five decades, beginning as a Sheriff’s Deputy and Chief Deputy before being elected Sheriff in 1986 and serving two terms. He later served as Director of Administration for the Hamilton County Commissioners, helping oversee major county initiatives and facilities projects.

Stevens cited Russell’s character, leadership, and commitment to community service as reasons for his endorsement.

“I have known the Russell family for most of my adult life,” Stevens said. “Jack represents the best of his generation. He is dedicated to serving his community with compassion, common sense, the ability to listen and the experience to help Hamilton Heights Schools prepare paths to success for all our students.”

Russell said the endorsement is especially meaningful because of the longstanding relationship between Stevens and his family.

“Dan Stevens has spent his life serving Hamilton County and helping make our communities stronger,” Russell said. “His endorsement is incredibly humbling. Dan was one of my grandfather’s closest friends, and they worked together for many years. Growing up, I saw firsthand the respect they had for one another and their shared commitment to public service. To receive Dan’s support today is truly an honor.”

Russell currently serves as President and CEO of OneZone Chamber and as Vice President of the Hamilton Heights Education Foundation. His campaign is focused on supporting student achievement, strengthening community engagement, and ensuring responsible stewardship of district resources.

“Dan’s leadership has impacted generations of Hamilton County residents,” Russell said. “I am grateful for his confidence in me and for the example he has set through a lifetime of service.”

The Hamilton Heights School Board election will be held on Nov. 3, 2026.
