Football Previews Part 1: Postponements wreaked havoc last week, time for refresh in Week 3

Noblesville (2-0) at Fishers (1-1)

Noblesville continues to impress offensively for the second straight game. The Millers won at Homestead on the road with a dominating 49-6 win last Saturday after the game was postponed from last Friday night.

As a team, Noblesville rushed for 384 yards on 41 carries. In two games, the Millers have amassed 843 on the ground.

Brody Gump ran just nine times for 172 yards and scored three touchdowns. DJ Collier, Israel Oladipupo and Noah Shinkle all scored and Max Miller threw a TD pass to Nicky Morris.

Fishers leads the series with a 15-5 record.

Fishers lost a heartbreaker to Pike, 35-34.

The Tigers were down 28-14 heading into the fourth quarter. They outscored Pike 20-7, but it wasn’t enough to hold on. Pike scored with 27 seconds left. The extra point kick became the deciding factor.

JonAnthony Hall reeled in 15 catches for 181 yards. Ryan Thembulembu caught four for 66, three for touchdowns; he also rushed for 43. Gage Sturgill ran in a pair of TDs.

Zionsville (1-1) at Westfield (2-0)

The Class 6A No. 1 Rocks continued their game from Friday in prime time Saturday against Carmel. Trailing 10-0 at halftime, they were able to overcome adversity and came back with 17 second-half points for a 17-13 win over the Greyhounds.

Mikeah Webster rushed 15 times for 54 yards and a TD, along with Deacon King totaling 53. Carsen Melvin threw for 196 yards with Gabe Aramboles leading the receiving corps with 123 yards on seven catches, including a 79-yard touchdown.

This is the 38th meeting between the HCC foes with Zionsville having the edge with a 23-14 mark in the series.

6A No. 11 Zionsville won its home opener last week against Lawrence Central in a shootout, 48-40.

Heritage Christian (2-0) at Guerin Catholic (2-0)

After its game was completely postponed to Saturday, 3A No. 4 Guerin Catholic started off in a hole, down 14-7 after the first at Lebanon and trailed 21-14 at halftime. The Golden Eagles outscored the host Tigers 21-10 in the second half to escape Boone County with a 35-31 win. Quarterback Malcolm Houze scored the game-winner on a one-yard run with four seconds remaining.

Houze threw for 259 yards, including a pair of TD passes to Aiden Horn and another to Trevor Macey. Houze also ran for 64 and Jack Linden 55 and a score. Hayden Cler caught nine for 88 yards.

This will be the 12th meeting all-time between the two Eagles. Guerin holds an 8-3 record in the series.

Heritage Christian doubled up Scecina in its home opener last week, 42-21.

Hamilton Southeastern (2-0) at Avon (1-1)

The 6A No. 4 Royals hosted North Central in another game that was suspended Friday night and resumed Saturday. HSE took a commanding lead in the first half to go up 35-13.

After five touchdowns in the first half and two in the third quarter, Southeastern had completely overwhelmed the Panthers in a 49-26 home win.

Carter Reed had three scores and 115 yards rushing. Chandler Weston had 82 yards rushing and was 10 for 15 passing for 84 yards and three TDs.

HSE has a 15-12 record heading into the 28th meeting in the all-time with the Orioles.

USA Today No. 13 Avon took down Ben Davis at home in overtime, 29-28 last week.
