The Fishers Police Department is now accepting applications for the 40th session of the Citizens Academy.
The Citizens Academy will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday nights at FPD headquarters, 4 Municipal Drive. The academy is open to city residents ages 16 and older. Sessions will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 17 and graduation will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Class size is limited to 30.
The purpose of the academy is to provide participants with an opportunity to better understand the role of police officers and, more specifically, to strengthen the relationship between officers and the community. Officers will provide an overview of their roles and responsibilities, as well as insight into some of the specialized units and skills within FPD. Topics will include how to make a traffic stop, how the K-9 Unit works within the agency, the role of the Fishers Dive Team, how Crime Scene Investigators process scenes, and how to safely navigate social media and the internet. Students will have some classroom instruction and practical role-play training each day.
Each applicant is subject to a screening process; advanced registration is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Begin the registration process by submitting interest at this link.
Once pre-registration and background screenings are complete, approved applicants will receive an email from “FISHERS, IN” with final registration information details.
Registration is open until the class fills or until Friday, July 22.
