Fishers PD promotes Mike Taylor to Captain

Last week, Fishers Police Chief Mitch Thompson promoted Lieutenant Mike Taylor to Captain. Captain Taylor has been assigned command of the Patrol Division, the largest division within the Fishers Police Department.

Captain Taylor was born and raised in Indianapolis where he graduated from Pike High School.  He attended Purdue University and earned a B.A. in Law and Society, as well as his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 2004.

Immediately following graduation he moved to Fort Benning, Ga., where he began his military career as an Infantry Officer. During this time, he elected to continue his military service as an active member of the National Guard and Reserves and pursue a full-time career in law enforcement. His career in law enforcement began in May 2005 with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy in McHenry County, Ill.

In September 2006, he was hired by the Fishers Police Department. His early years were spent as a Patrolman on the midnight shift. He was selected as an entry-team member of the Emergency Response Team in 2007.

At the end of 2007, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1-293rd Infantry Battalion as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer. He continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves today at the rank of Major.

He promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the Patrol Division in 2012. In 2014, he was selected to establish and supervise the Patrol Division’s Crime Reduction Unit and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2015.

In 2017, he attended the 269th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. He considers it one of the greatest experiences he has ever had in his law enforcement career, and he built friendships with fellow leaders that will last a lifetime.

He is a proud husband and father. Captain Taylor and his family call Fishers home and love serving the community.
