Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam issued a Local Disaster Emergency Declaration as of Thursday, April 3. This declaration was done to ensure the city has the resources and support for continued necessary public health and safety response due to the impact of the tornado on Wednesday, April 2.

“This declaration allows us to streamline processes, cut red tape and prioritize what truly matters – helping our community rebuild,” Finkam said. “My team and your city councilors are working tirelessly to ensure a quick recovery – a special thank you to our city council for expediting appropriations for our recovery efforts.”

The council held a special meeting [Thursday] to approve funds to assist with the emergency disaster relief efforts provided by the city,” Carmel City Council President Adam Aasen said. “The safety of our community remains our top priority during this time of need. I thank Vice President Matt Snyder for proposing the appropriation and Mayor Sue Finkam for leading the charge to restore our community.”

This Declaration of Local Disaster Emergency remains in effect through Thursday, April 10.
