The Fishers GOP Club on Aug. 19 welcomed Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness and Director of Economic Development Megan Baumgartner at the club’s monthly meeting. The more than 60 attendees included Fishers residents, elected officials, and GOP supporters.

Fadness discussed the business of running the city and the efforts to market Fishers as a great place for businesses and industries to set up operations. Fishers is an entrepreneurial city and a great place to live, work, and play.

Baumgartner informed the group of the life sciences company moving to Fishers and the economic boom it will bring to the local economy – professional jobs, tax revenue for the city, and a solid representation of what the city can offer large companies.

Both Fadness and Baumgartner stressed the importance of attracting industry to Fishers as a means to ensure the city’s tax revenue is large enough to fund the amenities, lifestyle, and public resources to which residents are accustomed. The current revenue from residential property taxes is not enough to fund Fishers, so the mayor’s team is working to find creative, conservative approaches to problem solving.

Questions from the audience included concern for increasing crime, 5G cell towers, and the need to enforce ordinances in neighborhoods without homeowners associations.

In closing, Fadness and Baumgartner thanked the members of City Council for their support of their staff’s efforts.
