Eunice May Stephenson, 96, Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2022, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon, Ind. Born July 23, 1925, in Spencer County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Chester Omer and Rosie (Hall) Harris.
She was 1944 graduate of Michigantown High School.
Eunice worked as a cook in the cafeteria of the Marion Township Elementary School in Boone County. She retired after 25 years of service to the Marion-Adams School District (now Sheridan Community Schools). Not long after retirement, she decided she’d had enough of the cold, and sometimes long, Indiana winters. She and her husband Bennie became snowbirds and flew south, stopping when they hit Port Aransas, Texas.
Eunice never let the grass grow under her feet unless she was fiddling around in the garden. She loved fussing over her flowers and taking care of her property; she was still doing her own yard work until recently. She also loved going on adventures with her friends. Whether it was a quick trip into town, a drive through the country, or an honest-to-goodness road trip, Eunice never gave it a second thought – she was ready to go. She enjoyed sewing when she had a little down time. Eunice was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her children and quilts for friends, family, and acquaintances.
Her strong faith served her well throughout the years. She was a member of Christian Liberty Church where she was an active member of the Ladies’ Aid.
Family was a very important part of her life.
Eunice is survived by her sons, Glen Keith Stephenson of Columbus, Richard Kevin Stephenson of Lebanon, and Charles Craig Stephenson of Mechanicsburg; daughters, Carol Ferry of Greenwood, and Kathy Boyt (Dayle) of Westerville, Ohio; five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew Stephenson; daughters-in-law, Janet Stephenson and Mary Ellen Stephenson; four brothers, Tom, Clifford, Carl, and Norman; four sisters, Jean, Della, Louise, and Elaine; and by her loving husband, Bennie J. Stephenson on February 14, 2001. She and Bennie were married on October 29, 1948.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Elizaville Cemetery, 5745 N. 500 E., Lebanon. Eunice’s former Pastor, Dan Ferren will be officiating.
