Mr. Ernie Taylor, 95, Zionsville, passed away on September 16, 2023, at his home.
Ernie was born July 9, 1928, in Henryville, Ind., a son of the late James and Dora (Casey) Taylor. He married “Dot” Taylor on May 3, 1957. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2019.
Ernie graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and deployed to Naples, Italy. Ernie was a retired steamfitter and life member of UA Local 440 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He maintained a family farm and enjoyed collecting antique tractors and horse-drawn equipment. He was an artist with metal, and many of his works are permanently displayed along State Road 32 if you know where to look. At age 72, he took up music instruments, learning to play the ukulele, guitar, and banjo, often performing for rehab patients at the Parkwood Center.
Ernie is survived by his son, Thomas (wife, Christine) Taylor of Virginia; grandchildren, Zach Taylor, Madison (Adam) Stillabower, and Rhonda (Tony) Poe; great-grandchildren, Megan, Paul, and Mary Hurley; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He has many nieces and nephews, as well.
In addition to his wife, “Dot” and son, Ronald Hartrum, Ernie was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Lowry, and his brothers, Earl, James, Roy, and Ward Taylor.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023, until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Ernie will be laid to rest at Rosston Cemetery in Zionsville.
