May 2, 2009 – October 22, 2025
Elizabeth Suzanne Achenbach, Cicero, born May 2, 2009, in Carmel, left us far too soon on October 22, 2025. Known for her adventurous spirit, Elizabeth exhibited creativity, talent, and wit, bringing joy and laughter to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her well. She was a student at Hamilton Heights High School, where she was a beloved member of the sophomore class of 2028. Prior to that, she attended Westfield Middle School and elementary school at Coram Deo Academy.
Elizabeth had a passion for life that was infectious. She enjoyed playing hockey for the Junior Fuel in the 317 Hockey League, displaying the same adventurous spirit on the ice that she did in life. She was an avid fan of her beloved Chicago Blackhawks, having a good-natured rivalry with her father’s favorite hockey team, the St. Louis Blues. Off the rink, she was a rock music enthusiast and attended many concerts of the bands that she followed. She had an unending love for art, where she was able to show her creativity that guided her through life. Elizabeth had an endearing affection for animals, particularly her cherished pets Goldy (dog), Snowflake (guinea pig), and Pepe and Gir (chinchillas). She also loved horses and enjoyed the freedom of horseback riding. The Indy 500 and its festivities were an annual highlight and tradition for her and her family, and it was a testament to her love for thrill and excitement.
Elizabeth was a member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel, where she was baptized on Father’s Day, June 21, 2009. She was confirmed there on April 27, 2024, and the confirmation verse she chose was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” As we mourn her loss, we are reminded of God’s love for her and his promise of eternal life. She is survived by her parents, Derek and Greta Achenbach; sister, Kathryn “Katy” Achenbach; brother, Geoffrey Achenbach; grandmother, Susan Achenbach; uncle, Kyle (Melissa) Achenbach; aunts, Nicole (Kevin) Collett, Kathe (Perry) Preston, Jill (Andy) Kamman; and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Irma Darlage, and Evan Achenbach.
Visitation took place Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. A funeral service followed on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Cornerstone Lutheran Church Carmel, 4850 E. Main St., with Pastor Scott Giger officiating.
For those who wish to honor her love of animals, memorials may be given to the Humane Society for Hamilton County or to Cornerstone Lutheran Church, noting “Comfort Dogs” on the memo line.
Elizabeth’s life was a melody of love, adventure, and creativity that will continue to echo in our hearts. We encourage all who knew and loved Elizabeth to share their memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page, capturing the essence of a life lived to the fullest. May we all honor Elizabeth’s vibrant spirit by remembering her with love and cherishing the moments we shared with her.
