Duke Energy has partnered with Sheridan Elementary School to promote reading. Through a Duke Energy Foundation grant, Sheridan Elementary has received $2,800 to support the Sheridan Elementary Readers program.

Dagny Zupin, Community Relations Liaison for Duke Energy, facilitated the grant with Sheridan Schools.

“Duke Energy Indiana is proud to support Sheridan School Corporation’s continued use of Accelerated Reader,” Zupin said. “Through Duke Energy’s contribution, Accelerated Reader will promote at-home access to reading materials, the high school peer program and high IREAD scores.”

Funds will be used to purchase Accelerated Reader, which is primarily used as a tool for a reading program that pairs high school students with third graders as part of the Sheridan High School Education Professions Pathway. Sheridan Elementary officials are grateful for the Duke Energy Foundation and the commitment of Duke Energy to give back to the community.

“Developing a love of reading is one of the most important things we can do as educators, and we are grateful that Duke Energy shares our desire to promote reading for our students,” Sheridan Elementary Principal Valerie Roberts said.

Superintendent Dave Mundy added, “Duke Energy has been a great partner for Sheridan Schools for many years, and this is just another example of how they are more than our energy provider, but a true partner.”
