Dr. Anita Joshi, a respected pediatrician, small business owner, and community leader, has filed for candidacy for the West District seat on the Carmel City Council.
Joshi has been a Hoosier for 25 years and a resident of Carmel for 18 years with her husband, Dr. Arun Jain, and their family. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Joshi is active in the community, serving in leadership positions on various boards, including the Center for Interfaith Cooperation, the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, and the Brebeuf Jesuit Board of Trustees and is an engaged member of the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana.
Joshi chose to move to Carmel in 2005, drawn to its economic and social vibrance. She says she is excited to support and strengthen the city’s unique position as one of the most welcoming and desirable places to live in the country.
“I care deeply about Carmel and want to ensure that it continues to thrive far into the future,” Joshi said. “I want Carmel to be a place where my children and their peers choose to live when they are working adults.”
Joshi says she is running because she brings the ability to work with a wide array of constituents, build consensus and get things done. She says she firmly believes that city leadership must promote growth in Carmel in a sustainable way. Joshi’s skills combine her compassion and care for people with her practical and pragmatic business sense.
“As a physician and small business owner, I need to balance good business sense with the ability to listen and respond to people’s needs and concerns,” Joshi said.
With her extensive experience in healthcare and community service, Joshi says she is committed to making data-driven decisions, fostering fiscal responsibility, and respecting and representing a variety of opinions.
Joshi and her husband have been married for 30 years and have two children who are currently pursuing university degrees. They consider Carmel their permanent home. They are active people who enjoy hiking, gardening, scuba diving, traveling, and playing with their dog, Kulfi.
