February 19, 1941 – April 1, 2025
Donald Edward Hughes, 84, Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Evansville, Ind., on February 19, 1941 to Oscar and Pauline Hughes.
Don graduated from Bosse High School and attended the University of Evansville, laying the foundation for a life marked by hard work and service. Don was a man whose life was defined by his faith, generosity, and love for his family. He was a devoted member of Deep Creek Community Church in Punta Gorda. He and his late son Kyle shared a heartfelt ministry distributing thousands of copies of Jesus Calling, touching countless lives. His faith was not only his guide but his mission-he found joy in sharing the love of Christ with others and was known for his warm smile, encouraging spirit, and servant’s heart.
Over the years, Don built a successful career with companies such as RCA, Magnavox, and Signetics, where he traveled extensively as the worldwide account manager for General Motors. He later transitioned into entrepreneurship, owning and operating a small business in the automotive industry until his retirement. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Don loved coaching and cheering on his children and grandchildren. He found joy in simple pleasures – fishing, shelling on the beach, and spending time outdoors. His backyard was a personal sanctuary and a place of gathering, thoughtfully created with waterfalls, koi ponds, gardens, and a sport court, all designed to bring people together.
He is survived by his son, Ryan Hughes (Kim); daughters, Kendra Hoyt (Dave) and Krista Broshears; and his beloved grandchildren: Simon, Abigail, Kerry, Christian, Charlie, Breanna, and Grace. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and his beloved son, Kyle Edward Hughes.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a service at 1 p.m., on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville. He will be laid to rest at Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Waters (woundedwaters.org) continuing Don’s legacy of faith, hope, and love.
