June 28, 1933 – December 24, 2022
Dolores C. Kassebaum, Fishers, died suddenly at home on December 24, 2022. She was born on June 28, 1933, in Kokomo, Ind.
Upon graduation from Broad Ripple High School in 1952, Dolores worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company and then transferred to Southern Bell after she married J. Charles Kassebaum in 1954. They lived in Jacksonville, Fla., until Charles finished his service with the Navy, and returned to live on the northside of Indianapolis. In 1974, she and Charles moved their family to the country between Fishers and Noblesville.
Dolores enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, and cooking. Her positions as a baker, then cafeteria manager at John Strange Elementary in Washington Township for over 16 years was a perfect job for her. After retirement in 1991, she helped Charles on the family farm, spent lots of time with her grandchildren, and loved hanging out with high school friends. She and Charles celebrated 61 years of marriage before his death in 2016. She was a long-time member of Fishers United Methodist Church.
Dolores is survived by her three daughters, Evelyn (Paul) Grissom of New Palestine, Mary (Mark) Rogers of London, Ohio, and Jeanette Kassebaum (Mark Stall) of McCordsville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her brother, Paul (Nancy) Higgins; and sister, Marcia (Michael) Durham; and many nieces and nephews. Her mother, Catherine Darner Higgins, and a sister preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Foundation, P.O. Box 3356, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Good Shepherd Chapel), 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held there at noon.
