Dewitt Auer, 93, of Noblesville, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville. He was born on June 4, 1924 to Amiel and Esther (Shook) Auer in Fort Wayne.
Dewitt was an Army medic from 1943 to 1945 on the USS Mercy, which was a Naval hospital ship during WWII. He then retired from General Motors, Guide Lamp Division in 1987 after 26 years of service. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Purdue Boilermaker basketball and the Washington Redskins. He was a life-long farmer and after retiring he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. Dewitt was a quiet guy and a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and was also a former member of the UAW Local 663.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Auer; sons, Michael (Becky) Auer & Duane (Taffy) Auer; daughter, Trudy (Brian) Baldwin; grandchildren, Garrett, Kevin, Joshua, Michelle, Katrina, Chris, Tammy, Sarah and Michelle; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marshall Auer and his sister, Gloria Emmons.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church, 10055 East 186th St., Noblesville, with Rev. Adrian Piazza officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.
