Recently, the Westfield Rotary Club had the privilege of hosting Danyele Easterhaus, a dedicated leader with over two decades of hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector. She delivered a deeply moving and inspiring message centered on empathy and resilience – qualities she’s cultivated through years of advocacy and personal growth.

Danyele joined us to share powerful insights from her recent contribution to the book Empathy Impact: The Wild Effects of Kindness in Action. This compelling collection features true stories from 15 remarkable women, each illustrating how empathy in action creates profound, ripple-effect transformations in lives, workplaces, organizations, and entire communities.

Drawing from her extensive background, she emphasized a core truth: when we genuinely see others – for who they truly are and for what they truly need – everything changes. It reshapes relationships, fosters inclusive environments, and drives meaningful progress in both personal and professional spheres.

A particularly touching part of her talk revolved around her 22-year-old daughter, Brooke, a proud Special Olympian whose journey has been the heartbeat of Danyele’s own path. What began as a mother’s tender habit of journaling “Brookisms” (those unique, joyful expressions and perspectives Brooke brings to the world) evolved into something far greater. Brooke’s adoption story became a turning point: by intentionally building a compassionate, ongoing relationship with her daughter’s birth mother, Danyele’s eyes were opened to layers of systemic injustice she hadn’t fully grasped before.

This experience ignited her evolution into what she now calls a “justice fighter” – someone committed to using empathy as a tool for equity and healing.

True to her mission of turning compassion into tangible impact, 100 percent of the proceeds from Empathy Impact support Louder Than Silence, a Dallas-based nonprofit dedicated to providing long-term care, community, and essential resources to survivors of sexual violence – at no cost to those it serves.

Danyele’s presence and her story served as a vivid, heartfelt reminder: empathy isn’t passive – when channeled into deliberate action, it becomes a force capable of mending divides, uplifting the overlooked, and creating lasting change. We’re grateful for the wisdom and inspiration she shared with us.
