Hamilton County’s best golfers are making their presence known at the Indiana Women’s Amateur Championship, which is taking place this week at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis.
Two local women are currently tied for fifth place. Samantha Brown, a Westfield graduate who just finished her freshman year at Purdue, scored 144 for her first two rounds. Brown made four birdies during Sunday’s first round and two more during Monday’s second round.
Carmel’s Gabriella Gilrowski, who played for Guerin Catholic her first two years of high school, zoomed into fifth place after a five-under 67 for her second round. Gilrowski had five birdies and parred the other holes, on the heels of two birdies in her first round. Gilrowski played college golf at Georgetown University and spent the past year at Tulane University.
Other top 10 local golfers include Carmel’s Claire Swathwood and Noblesville’s Josie Kelley, who are tied for seventh with 145s. Fishers’ Janelle Garcia, Fortville’s Yanah Rolston and Carmel’s Michaela Headlee are part of a ninth-place tie with 146s.
