You’ve probably heard about the expected mass inflow of traffic and tourists on the day of the total solar eclipse, Monday, April 8. But how many people are expected and where are they coming from?
According to Assistant Director of Community Engagement Sarah Buckner with Hamilton County Tourism, as many as 600,000 people could travel to Indiana that day. For context, that’s the number of visitors Hamilton County sees in a typical month.
As far as where these people are traveling from, the map above shows the expected routes to each state along the path of totality. The data on this map are based on approximate drive time and past eclipses, but Buckner said these data don’t account for international travel, flights, visiting friends and relatives, or the fact that all Hamilton County schools will be out of the session that day.
