WESTFIELD – The Colts wrapped up training camp on Thursday with a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers.
The main storyline throughout training camp has been the open quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen stayed consistent on Thursday, saying there is still no timeline for the decision of who will be the Colts starting quarterback.
“I don’t have an exact timetable on it, but sooner than later would be nice,” Steichen said.
The Colts will play the Packers in their second preseason game on Saturday. Steichen that the plan is for both Richardson and Jones to play, with Jones starting and playing the first couple of drives, and Richardson playing the rest of the first half.
“I want to see how this thing plays out on Saturday, and then we’ll see early in the next week and see where it goes,” Steichen said.
“Both of them have been doing a nice job, so we’ll go from there,” Steichen said. “But I’m pleased with both of them, and we’ll make that decision when it needs to be made.”
“Obviously it’s a big decision that’s got to be made. And we’ll work through it. And I’ll have discussions with (Colts owner) Carlie (Irsay-Gordon) and (Colts general manager) Chris (Ballard), and we’ll work through it here soon.”
Steichen added that he will make the decision on who will be the starting quarterback but will have conversations with Irsay-Gordon and Ballard.
In the joint practice on Thursday, the Colts offense dealt with a lot of penalties, which Steichen said they have to get cleaned up.
“There was some good,” Steichen said. “I didn’t think it was all bad.”
As for the entire team, Steichen likes what he sees.
“I really like where our football team’s at going into the second preseason game,” Steichen said.
The Colts preseason game against the Packers is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.
