August 3, 1943 – March 18, 2026
Clifford Michael “Mike” Simmons, 82, Indianapolis, went home to be with his Savior on March 18, 2026. Surrounded by the deep love of his family, he entered his heavenly home peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and joy.
Mike was born on August 3, 1943, in Jonesboro, Ark., to Clifford and Bernice Simmons. He was one of three boys and shared a lifelong bond with his brothers, Chuck and Walter. On August 10, 1968, Mike married the love of his life, Roberta J. “Bobbi” (Johnson), at Donmoyer Avenue Church in South Bend, Ind. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, faith, and commitment, sharing 57 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story became the foundation of a family that meant everything to him.
Mike was a proud and devoted father to his three sons: Andy (Kaye) of Cicero, Matt (Adrienne) of Indianapolis, and Jordan of Indianapolis. While being a father was one of his greatest callings, becoming “Opa” was truly the joy of his life. His five beloved grandchildren – Bella, Greta, Graydon, Gabriella, and Granger – were his greatest treasures. He delighted in every moment spent with them, offering love, laughter, and a steady presence they will carry with them always. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter.
Mike dedicated his career to teaching German at Roncalli High School, where he was affectionately known as “Herr” by his students. He had a passion for language, culture, and connection, which he brought to life by leading multiple trips to Germany. These experiences not only enriched his students’ education but also reflected his love for all things German – especially German cars.
Mike will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his deep love for his family, and his ability to find joy in both life’s big moments and its simplest pleasures. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left an enduring impact on everyone who knew him.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing Mike is now at peace in his eternal home. His life was a beautiful example of love, faith, and devotion – a life truly well lived.
Visitation for Clifford “Mike” Simmons will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. The funeral service will be at noon on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the same venue, with Pastor Larry Whinnery officiating. Burial will follow in Cicero Cemetery.
