Celebrate the dogs of Westfield at Barktoberfest

Barktoberfest, presented by Community First Bank, returns to Asa Bales Park, 205 W. Hoover St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, for a day of fur and fun. Net proceeds from Barktoberfest will be donated to the Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC).

“Countless residents have adopted their best friends from the Humane Society for Hamilton County,” Mayor Scott Willis said. “I’m glad the city can continue hosting an event our residents – including those with four legs – love and doing our part to ensure more cats and dogs find their forever homes.”

Dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds (and their humans) are invited to take part in this Westfield tradition where they can enjoy:

• Pet-related vendors
• Food and beer vendors
• An agility course for adventurous dogs
• Complimentary pet portraits
• Caricature and airbrush artists
• Stuffy Station (stuffed animal creation for an additional fee; cash and credit card are accepted on-site)
• Carnival-style games
• … and more!

Those wanting to put their best paws forward may enter one of the costume contests. No purchase is necessary to enter the costume contests; contests will be hosted every hour (11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m.) throughout the event. The entry categories are best duo/group, cutest canine, and best character; prizes will be awarded to each category’s winner.

HSHC will be on-site with adoptable dogs looking for their fur-ever homes. Back by popular demand, the 50/50 Fetch allows attendees to purchase a tennis ball on-site at the HSHC tent for $10 for a chance to win half of the jackpot in the 50/50 raffle. Tickets to attend are $8 per person in advance, and $10 on the day of the event (online or at the door). Children ages 5 and younger are free. Dogs do not need a separate ticket. All dogs must remain leashed throughout the event.

Free parking is available in the Westfield High School parking lot, 18250 N. Union St.
