The Carmel boys basketball team dropped an overtime game at Cathedral on Wednesday, 63-60.
The Greyhounds led 11-8 after the first quarter and 31-20 at halftime. The Irish began coming back in the third period, cutting Carmel’s lead to 42-34 at the end of the quarter.
Still, Carmel was up 46-40 with 1:04 left, after Conner Gioia hit two free throws. But Cathedral came back, hitting a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to tie the game, and then send it to overtime. The Irish then sealed the game with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left in the extra period.
Peter Suder scored 16 points for the ‘Hounds, with Jackson Jannsen adding 14 (including four 3-pointers) and Charlie Williams scoring 13. Suder also pulled seven rebounds, with Bryce Beery collecting five rebounds. Gioia handed out eight assists and made five steals.
Carmel is 7-4 and will be off until next Friday (Jan. 24) when it hosts Pike in a Metropolitan Conference game.
