June 18, 1942 – April 7, 2026
Carolyn Marie Bond departed this life on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the age of 82 years. She was the first of three children born to Laura Jeanetta Gilliam Duvall and Bismarck Gladstone Duvall on June 18, 1943, in Hamilton County. Carolyn attended the Hamilton County school system and graduated from Jackson Central High School in 1962. One of her proudest achievements was receiving an associate’s degree in programming.
As a young woman, she moved to Indianapolis and met the love of her life, Arthur J. Bond. They were united in holy matrimony on January 27, 1968. Carolyn was a loving and committed wife, and they enjoyed nearly 44 years together until his death in December 2012.
Her early life was spent on her parents’ farm where she learned how to preserve their fresh farm produce; canning, making jelly, and helping to make bread and butter pickles with her mother. These early farm years instilled in her a life-long love of gardening. She loved planting flowers and always had a vegetable garden wherever she lived.
Mrs. Bond retired from the Top of Alabama Regional Council of Government (TARCOG), which serves five communities (DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone, and Marshall) with 13 years of dedicated service to the Aging Department Nutrition Program, where she was an Administrative Assistant/Data Entry Clerk.
Sister Carolyn was one of the founding members of Grady-Madison AME Church. Over the past 25 years she was a loyal member of the Steward Board, Trustee Board, Stewardess Board, Women’s Missionary Society, and the Lay Organization. She faithfully served as the Church School Secretary and chaired many Vacation Bible School programs.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Lawrence Duvall. She is survived by a sister, Jannine (Emmett) Harris, a sister-in-law, Allison Bond, and nieces and nephews. And finally, she is survived by many relatives and friends of the Roberts Settlement community in Atlanta, Ind.
Visitation for Carolyn will be held at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. with a funeral service at noon. Directly following the service will be a graveside service at Roberts Chapel Cemetery, Atlanta, Ind.
We ask that friends and family share memories, stories, and photos on the memorial page as a tribute to her life. Your recollections will serve as a testament to the life of a woman who was, in every sense, truly remarkable.
