Shell Barger, a Realtor with RE/MAX Ability Plus in Carmel, hosted an event on May 1 to encourage people to donate new or gently used items for older youth in The Villages, the state’s largest foster care agency.

The items, such as furniture or kitchen appliances, went to young adults who age out of the foster care system and will be getting their first apartment or dorm room.

According to Barger, the event was a huge success. Attendees filled a trailer, a U-Haul cargo van, two SUVs and a car with donated items.

“When I learned about the kids aging out of their foster home, it pulled at my heartstrings,” Barger said. “The Villages played a significant role in helping my family with foster services that led to the adoption of my beloved granddaughter. You can definitely say I’m passionate about supporting those in need at The Villages.”
