Carmel wins MIC opener over LN

Carmel cruised to victory in its first Metropolitan Conference game of the season, beating Lawrence North 79-50 at the Wildcats’ gym.
The Greyhounds got off to a tremendous start, leading 27-11 after the first quarter. Emily Roper was on fire, making five of six shots to score 10 points during the period. Mackenzie Woods added six points. Roper then scored eight more points in the second period, helping Carmel to a 46-20 lead at halftime.
The ‘Hounds outscored Lawrence North in both of the second-half quarters as well. Mackenzie Thomas scored six points in each of the two quarters. Kate Clarke, the Michigan commit who missed the first few games of the season, played in the last three periods of the game, making a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.
Thomas and Roper both scored 20 points, while Woods had 13 points. Thomas also collected nine rebounds, with Hannah Lach pulling six. Laura Valiente and Clarke each handed out five assists.
Carmel is 3-3 and hosts West Lafayette on Thursday.
