The next phase of the expansion of the Monon Greenway through the urban core of Carmel will take shape next spring.

The city has released artistic renderings of the expanded trail, playgrounds, and public gathering spaces. This project will be flanked to the west by the Great American Songbook Museum and to the east by a redevelopment project envisioned to include a food hall.

The $13 million project will widen the Greenway from 14 to 140 feet between Walnut Street and City Center Drive, which is immediately south of where the previous expansion occurred in the Midtown area. The money for the project is from the most recent bond issue with $500,000 being contributed from the CRC Urban Parks Fund, which will partially cover the cost of the playground.

City officials say they expect to put this project out for bid in the spring of 2024 with an estimated completion by the end of 2025.
