Carmel police arrest two following shots fired along Westfield Boulevard

At 1:37 a.m. on Friday, Carmel police were dispatched to several calls of shots fired along Westfield Boulevard beginning in the area of 116th Street.

Officers responded to the area as calls continued coming from residents along Westfield Boulevard to 96th Street. Numerous bullet casings were located along Westfield Boulevard.

As officers responded, more shots could be heard south of 96th Street.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears shots were being fired from a moving vehicle traveling southbound on Westfield Boulevard.

Due to the swift and diligent work of Carmel Police Department Officers, Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators, the individuals believed to be involved in the shots fired incident along Westfield Boulevard have been identified and arrested.

After a successful investigative operation, including multiple search warrants and traffic stops, two guns were collected that appear to match the evidence found at the scene. The following individuals were arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Jail:

  • Nathaniel G. Howell, 22, was charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.
  • Dustin M. Barger, 21, was charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.

Charges including the preliminary ones described above are merely accusations; an accused is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
