The Carmel Lions Club has shared its intention to participate in the “Jim Irsay 1976 Acts of Kindness Day” in two ways on Aug. 5, in celebration of Carmel’s 50th anniversary as a city.
For the first act of kindness, the Lions Club board of directors has voted to donate $1,976 to the Trinity Free Clinic for its vision program. The clinic helps to provide free vision tests and eyeglasses to those in need. The Lions Club currently processes requests from all of Carmel’s elementary schools when eyeglasses are needed for students who cannot afford them. Students who need assistance are referred to the Trinity Free Clinic’s program. These funds will go a long way in continuing this service.
The second action will be the donation of $1,976 in children’s reading books to Carmel’s elementary schools. The Lions Club received a list of requested books from the media specialists at each school targeting reading at a second-grade level. The Lions then purchased one of each book requested for each of the 11 school libraries as part of their ongoing literacy campaign.
The Carmel Lions Club is partnering, like many other organizations, with the Kiwanis Club of Carmel and the Rotary Club of Carmel in support of this special occasion. The collaborative, community-wide initiative will feature multiple service projects across the city. Volunteers from Rotary, Kiwanis, other service organizations, local businesses and non-profits will complete 1,976 acts of kindness, honoring the memory of Jim Irsay.
In addition to the Lions’ two large acts of kindness, Lions Club members will receive an email from the organization letting them know about the contributions and encouraging each of them to also do one act of kindness on Aug. 5.
This event is intended to inspire civic pride, expand community engagement, and leave a lasting, positive mark on the city of Carmel. The Jim Irsay 1976 Acts of Kindness Day has been approved by the Indianapolis Colts for Aug. 5, 2026.
