Carmel City Judge Brian G. Poindexter recently volunteered in court to preside over two mock murder trials.

The trials were staffed by an amazing group of Boy Scouts from Troop 777, led by pack leader attorney Scott P. Wyatt of Altman, Poindexter and Wyatt.

The Scouts performed mock trials in order to earn their Law Merit Badges and to gain hands on experience and exposure to the legal system.

The first case was the Empire v. Luke Skywalker. Skywalker was charged with the murder of 5,999 people aboard the Death Star. Skywalker asserted a claim of self-defense. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. A mistrial was declared and the matter will be set for a retrial at a later date.

There is no word on whether or not the Empire will file a civil suit for damages.

The second trial was the Wizarding World v. Harry Potter. Potter, on trial for the murder of Professor Quirrell, also asserted a claim of self-defense. Potter was acquitted of the crime.
