Carmel Gallery Walk features free trolley rides, roses

Whether you come alone, with friends or that special someone, you will enjoy the Feb. 10 IU Health North Hospital Second Saturday Gallery Walk. Free trolley rides will take place in the District from 5 to 9 p.m. Pick up will be near Agave Bar and Grill and Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream at Monon and Main Street. Please note that the trolley rides are on a first come, first served basis.

Vincent van Gogh painted at least 18 paintings of olive trees. Visit the Art Lab to recreate his Olive Tree and Yellow Sun painting during this month’s free make and take art project at the IU Health North Hospital Second Saturday Gallery Walk. While you’re there, take a spin on the pottery wheel. The Art Lab will be open from 5 to 8:30 p.m. –

The first 200 visitors throughout the galleries will receive a free rose.

Special gallery exhibits will be featured throughout the Gallery Walk including:

  • Fond memories of playtime with her children inspire the work of Indiana Artisan painter Cindy Cradler. Her colorful and happy renditions of classic toys such as Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Raggedy Ann and marbles will remind you of days past – and might be the perfect one-of-a-kind gift for your Valentine or yourself. Meet Cindy and see what’s on her easel as she paints during the monthly Gallery Walk at the Indiana Artisan store, next to Joe’s Butcher Shop (111 W. Main St., #120).
  • Join Hoosier Salon for the Opening Reception of “Near and Afar: A Matter of Perspective” featuring new work by Kathryn Houghton and Michael Janosky. Both artists are adept at accurately replicating light’s-play in the natural world and do so with confident boldness (22 N. Range Line Road).
  • Rita Spalding is an Indianapolis-based artist whose show titled “Nuances” will be at Art on Main during the month of February. Rita is best known for her large works of flowers which are displayed in national and regional galleries and businesses. She will be hosting a reception open to the public from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9 at Art on Main and will visit with shoppers during the Gallery Walk on Saturday, Feb. 10. Also featured for February are artists Penny Roberson and Cy Donelly, both of whom are instructors at Art Studio of Carmel.
  • The Carmel Arts Council’s Children’s Art Gallery features students from Woodbrook Elementary School and their exhibit “Sweetness and Light”. This exhibition features artwork the students created after learning about the art of American artist Wayne Thiebaud. Woodbrook students focused primarily on Thiebaud’s paintings of delicious desserts and sweet treats. The Gallery Annex showcases artwork from students at Carmel, Clay and Creekside Middle Schools in addition to artwork from the students at Carmel High School. The CAC’s “Community Art Exhibit” will feature a 3-D “bread tag” dress and a purse created by Carmel High School senior, Danielle Rothchild. Danielle’s creations are in our gallery to showcase her non-profit “Danielle Cares for Chairs.” (40 W. Main St.)
  • CCA Gallery’s Sweet ART Special takes place from Feb. 7 to 14. Purchase an item for $10 or more and receive a free floral print (111 W. Main St., #135).
  • Soori Gallery features paintings, bronze and acrylic sculptured works by leading American and international artists. Featured sculptors include Michael Wilkinson, Frederick Hart, Jerry Joslin and more (33 E. Main St.).

Activities taking place during the February Gallery Walk include:

  • Recreate van Gogh’s Olive Trees and Yellow Sun at the Art Lab. Don’t forget to take a spin on the pottery wheel while you’re there. Free to participate (31 E. Main St.).
  • Free caricatures and face painting by Custom Eyes Designs (Sub Zero Ice Cream, 111 W. Main St., #130).
  • Be a part of the Scavenger Hunt that will lead you to find select pieces of art or items of interest in each of the participating galleries and businesses. Begin the hunt inside All Things Carmel (110 W. Main St., #104). Your completed Scavenger Hunt clue sheet will enter you for a chance to win one of several great prizes sponsored by Carmel Health and Living during the Gallery Walk, including:
