CARMEL – There was some nostalgia in the air during the Carmel swim team’s three-team meet with Zionsville and Homestead on Wednesday.

The Greyhounds defeated both of their opponents in the triple-dual format, with the girls sweeping all 11 events and the boys winning nine races. Carmel coach Chris Plumb called it a “special day for us,” as it was the last home dual meet in the Greyhounds’ current pool. Carmel is presently building a new natatorium, which is expected to be open by next season.

Plumb said the team “was excited to compete and I felt like they had a great energy” as they said farewell to dual-meet competition at the pool that has housed the Greyhounds since 1998. Carmel will host a boys swimming sectional in February.

“We had alumni and people coming in and a lot of incredible memories and a lot of hard work,” said Plumb. “We’re excited to get into our new pool, but we’re very appreciative of this pool and all that it did for us.”

Carmel’s girls were led by Alex Shackell, who picked up individual victories in the butterfly and backstroke events, and Molly Sweeney, a winner in the individual medley and 100 freestyle. In the boys meet, Gregg Enoch was first in the IM and backstroke, while Andrew Shackell was first in the 50 free and butterfly.

The Greyhounds’ next meet is Tuesday at Fishers, and they finish the regular season Jan. 11 at Pike. The Carmel girls travel to Noblesville for their sectional, which starts on Feb. 1.
