Carmel joins Noblesville & Zionsville in achieving national distinction
On Wednesday, CoSN awarded the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal to Carmel Clay Schools (CCS). The CoSN TLE Seal is a national distinction awarded to school districts that implement rigorous privacy policies and practices to help protect student information.
The TLE Seal Program requires school systems to have implemented high standards for protecting student data privacy across five core practice areas: Leadership, Business, Data Security, Professional Development, and the Classroom.
“Carmel Clay Schools has demonstrated its strong commitment to protecting student data privacy,” CoSN CEO Keith Krueger said. “We are so pleased to welcome them to the community of CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal recipients and commend their ongoing commitment to this challenging work.”
CCS is the third school district in Indiana to earn this national distinction, joining Noblesville Schools and Zionsville Community Schools in meeting the requirements of the CoSN Trusted Learning Environment student data privacy framework. These Indiana districts join a select group of school districts from across the United States, encompassing both urban and rural communities that have established strong and institution-wide programs for student data privacy and are committed to continued maturity over time.
Together, the recipients of the CoSN TLE Seal have improved privacy protections for over 1.1 million students to date.
“We are honored to receive the Trusted Learning Environment Seal in recognition of our commitment to student data privacy, an essential component of our digital safety work with our students, staff, and community,” CCS Superintendent Dr. Michael Beresford said. “Digital safety is key to both our strategic plan and our mission to provide opportunities for all students to realize their potential in an ever-changing world.”
The CoSN TLE Seal is the only privacy framework designed specifically for school systems. Earning the TLE Seal requires that school systems have taken measurable steps to implement, maintain and improve organization-wide student data privacy practices. All TLE Seal recipients are required to demonstrate that improvement through a reapplication process every two years.
