Carmel Clay Parks & Rec honored with ICPYAS’ Chaucie’s Champion award

The Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide (ICPYAS), a non-profit dedicated to child sexual abuse and youth suicide prevention, announced the winner of the prestigious “Chaucie’s Champion” award at the Rise Up For Kids Breakfast on April 27 at the Ritz Charles in Carmel. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership in keeping kids safe from abuse and suicide.

This year’s “Chaucie’s Champion” award winner is Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation (CCPR) for its outstanding commitment to protecting children and adolescents from the devastating effects of abuse and suicide. CCPR has shown extraordinary dedication to the cause and has gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in the community.

“We are thrilled to honor Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation with this year’s Chaucie’s Champion award,” ICPYAS Executive Director Melissa Peregrin said. “Their tireless work in preventing child abuse and youth suicide is an inspiration to us all. CCPR is truly deserving of this recognition, and we are grateful for their contributions to our cause.”

CCPR’s Extended School Enrichment Program has committed to educating the entire staff and leadership about the signs of abuse and suicide for the past 11 years.

The “Chaucie’s Champion” award is named in memory of Chaucie Quillen, a young woman who tragically took her own life at the age of 18 after being sexually abused as a child. The award serves as a tribute to her courage and a reminder of the importance of preventing child abuse and youth suicide.

“Chaucie’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of child abuse and suicide on our communities,” Peregrin said. “Through the Chaucie’s Champion award, we hope to honor her memory and inspire others to join us in our efforts to keep kids safe”
